(The Center Square) – More than 38,000 people have enrolled in Medicaid since the Dec. 1 expansion in North Carolina, according to information from the governor’s office released Wednesday.
The total figure of more than 311,000 enrolllments was provided jointly by Gov. Roy Cooper and Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. When the expansion happened on Dec. 1, the dashboard tracking enrollments showed an immediate increase of 272,937.
The dashboard says it will update monthly. As of publication, it remained on the December update.
The majority of the 272,937 enrolled by Medicaid expansion on Dec. 1 were part of the family planning population automatically moved to full coverage.
Before passage by the Legislature and since, the expansion has been expected to impact roughly 600,000 eligible residents.
